Who You Are
You are a highly professional and qualified Building Surveyor educated to Degree level or equivalent in a relevant property subject. You possess extensive knowledge of building construction, planning, building regulations, and relevant health and safety legislation. You are a strategic thinker with the ability to make immediate, informed decisions about health, safety, and building compliance issues. As a detail-oriented professional, you can work autonomously, manage complex projects, and serve as the subject matter expert in building-related statutory compliance.
What the Job Involves
You will manage the delivery of programmed and responsive maintenance works within the council’s property estate, ensuring compliance with the Asset Management Plan. This includes conducting asbestos, condition, and accessibility surveys across various properties such as office buildings, industrial units, schools, and historic buildings. You will also oversee building-related health and safety statutory compliance, develop policy, manage risks, and ensure value for money in the delivery of maintenance projects up to £500,000 annually. Additionally, you will provide expert technical advice, supervise contractors, and ensure all maintenance activities comply with statutory requirements and council policies.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of building construction and regulations
- Proficient in risk management and health & safety legislation
- Experience in building survey and maintenance program delivery
- Strong project management and cost management skills
- Excellent communication and IT skills, including CAD and digital mapping systems
- Ability to work independently, often with conflicting pressures
- Capability to work at height and in confined spaces
- Membership or eligibility for membership in RICS or CIOB
