Who You Are
We are looking for a confident and experienced legal professional who can lead and advise on complex property transactions with minimal supervision. You should be able to navigate politically sensitive issues with tact and professionalism, and deliver high-quality legal services in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. You will collaborate effectively with colleagues across legal and client departments.
What the Job Involves
You will provide clear, practical legal advice on property law issues to internal clients and stakeholders. Your responsibilities include drafting and negotiating legal documents, leading or supporting legal transactions, advising on property due diligence, and managing relationships with external legal counsel. You will contribute to legal decision-making reports, monitor legal developments, support junior team members, and share knowledge within the team.
Skills
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX Fellow/Associate in England and Wales
- Strong knowledge of property law and practice, ideally within a local government context
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
- Proficient in using legal and office IT systems
- Ability to manage a varied caseload and meet tight deadlines
- Experience advising on residential property matters within local government (desirable)
- Familiarity with local authority governance and decision-making processes (desirable)
- Awareness of property litigation issues and when to escalate (desirable)
- Knowledge of related areas such as housing, commercial property, procurement, or planning law (desirable)
