Who You Are
As a Skilled Vehicle Technician, you are responsible for servicing, maintaining, and repairing vehicles and equipment to maximize their operational availability, safety, and effectiveness. You maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure vehicle and equipment availability rates are equivalent to or better than best practices for council transport fleets.
What the job involves
The job involves inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a diverse range of vehicles, plant, and equipment including making specialized repairs and modifications. You will prepare and present vehicles and motorcycles for testing at approved stations and conduct MOT tests on authorized vehicles. You will also manage your workload effectively, maintain accurate records, ensure safety procedures are followed, and work collaboratively with council partners and stakeholders.
Skills
- Vehicle technician qualification (NVQ Level 2 or above)
- Full, clean car and motorcycle driving licence
- PCV DD restricted (minimum) and/or HGV Class 2 licence
- Experience working on cars, light vans, and heavy vehicles
- Repair experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, body panels, and electrical systems
- Vehicle presentation experience at VOSA testing stations
- Welding equipment knowledge
- Understanding of vehicle workshop hazards and safety practices
- Capability to communicate clearly and lead change
