Who You Are

You are a meticulous and proactive individual with a solid understanding of the Care Act (2014) and financial regulations for Adult Social Care. Educated to A-Level standard or with equivalent professional experience, you possess excellent communication, negotiation, and people skills. Your ability to work collaboratively across teams, coupled with high levels of drive and initiative, makes you an ideal fit for handling complex financial situations. You are respectful, willing to travel locally for face-to-face interactions, and committed to promoting equality in service delivery.

What the job involves

As a Debt Recovery Officer in the Adults and Health department, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team tasked with reviewing and processing adult social care cases with outstanding debts to the local authority. Your role focuses on developing effective processes to prevent debt occurrences and addressing them early. You'll work closely with clients, families, social care staff, and external agencies to resolve queries, arrange payments, and ensure compliance with financial policies. You will regularly update case notes, manage financial assessments, and provide feedback on case progress while supporting department-wide process improvements.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of the Care Act (2014) and financial regulations for Adult Social Care
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, and ability to use case management systems
  • Experience with project management (beneficial but not essential)
  • Financial literacy with ability to perform manual calculations and reconciliations
  • Effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solving ability and a 'can-do' attitude
  • Effective time management and commitment to meeting deadlines
  • Willingness to travel locally for in-person meetings
