You are a skilled carpenter with formal qualifications or demonstrable time-served experience in the trade. You work well independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills in diagnosing building faults and defects. You understand the importance of excellent customer service as a representative of the Council, maintaining professionalism in all client interactions.
What the Job Involves
As a carpenter, your primary role is to execute carpentry repairs, maintenance, renewals, and replacements. Your tasks range from routine reactive repairs to significant refurbishment work in both occupied and void properties owned by the Council. You will diagnose building faults to determine the most effective solutions, while upholding health and safety standards. Communication and documentation are essential parts of your role, ensuring stakeholders are informed and records are maintained accurately. The job involves frequent site visits, sometimes under varying conditions, including working at heights and during high-demand periods.
Skills
- Completed Carpentry apprenticeship/City & Guilds SCQF-6/NVQ qualification or time served experience
- Health & Safety training certificates
- Valid UK driving licence
- Experience in carpentry repairs, maintenance, and renewals
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and demands
- Own tools and drills
