Who You Are
You are a skilled carpenter with a completed apprenticeship, City & Guilds SCQF-6, or NVQ qualification, or can demonstrate time-served experience. You have a valid UK driving license and your own tools. You possess excellent customer service and ambassadorial skills, essential for maintaining the council's reputation. You are comfortable working independently and in a team, capable of diagnosing and solving building faults effectively, and committed to high standards of workmanship.
What the Job Involves
The role involves undertaking carpentry repairs, maintenance, renewals, and replacements across occupied and void housing properties and other council-owned premises. Your duties include diagnosing building defects, ensuring repairs are completed "Right First Time," and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of standards and regulations. You will collaborate with Repairs Team Supervisors and Planners, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The position requires you to provide consistent updates on work progress, manage documentation, and operate flexibly to meet service demands. Regular interaction with tenants, leaseholders, and the public is expected, often in occupied properties and possibly from heights.
