Who You Are

Lewisham Council is seeking passionate and proactive Family Practitioners to join our Prevention & Early Help Team. You are dedicated to working with children, young people, and families, providing essential support to improve outcomes, address challenges, and reduce risks. Your ability to empower families and build trusting relationships in the community is key to fostering sustainable change. You excel in collaborating with multi-disciplinary partners to ensure optimal outcomes for families, aiming to prevent the need for statutory services and reducing family breakdown risks.

What the job involves

As a Family Practitioner, you will be instrumental in providing intensive, family-centered support to vulnerable children and their families, both in the family home and the community. Your responsibilities include undertaking holistic assessments, developing action plans, delivering evidence-based interventions, and maintaining high standards of case recording and reporting. You will build strong links with local services and agencies, working flexibly to meet the needs of families, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Skills

  • 2+ years of experience as a Family Support Worker or Family Practitioner
  • Knowledge of evidence-based intervention strategies
  • Mediation and conflict resolution
  • Direct work with families in crisis
  • Familiarity with Early Help Assessments
  • Leadership in Teams Around the Family (TAF)
  • Understanding of restorative and trauma-informed practices
  • Commitment to professional development
