Who You Are
You are an experienced and highly organized individual capable of managing a workshop serving the fleet of the Plymouth City Council. Your background includes substantial experience in vehicle workshop management, customer service excellence, performance management, and team leadership. You possess a deep understanding of road transport law and have significant experience in delivering Ministry of Transport (MOT) testing, as well as inspections and testing required under an Operating Licence as set out by VOSA. Your education includes a GCSE Grade A* - C in Maths and English, vehicle technician qualification or extensive demonstrable experience in managing a vehicle workshop, and an IOSH qualification or equivalent in Health and Safety.
What the job involves
The role involves the day-to-day management of the workshop, ensuring compliance with VOSA regulations and the Council's Operating Licence. You will manage a team of 14 FTE operational staff in delivering both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and a service budget of £750k. Responsibilities include ensuring timely and high-standard repairs, managing the MOT station, delivering commercial services, liaising with clients and customers, resolving complaints, and implementing, monitoring, and updating health and safety practices. Additionally, you will ensure compliance with all legislation and Council policies, maintain a safe working environment, and manage productivity, performance, and stock within the workshop.
