Who You Are
We are seeking a dedicated Principal Social Worker with extensive experience in working with children under care proceedings. You have a strong understanding of the impact of trauma on both parents' capacity and children's needs. You are capable of engaging and supporting families, making informed decisions to help children remain or reunite with their families. You excel in conducting thorough assessments and produce work of an excellent standard based on evidence-based analysis.
What the Job Involves
As a Principal Social Worker for Cardiff Council, you will manage approximately 10/11 children (4/5 families) who are under care proceedings. You will oversee all aspects of case management including statutory visiting, care planning, reviewing, and court work. Your role will also involve supervision of a pod of social work assistants and less experienced staff, supporting team members and fostering a positive work environment. You will conduct monthly supervisions, chair strategy meetings, attend joint visits, and oversee Young People's care plans. Although primarily a supervisory role, you will handle complex cases when required.
