Who You Are

We are looking for an exceptional leader with senior experience in local government or similarly complex organizations. You have a strong professional background in housing, property, asset management, or the built environment. You possess a deep understanding of housing regulation, building safety, and compliance. As a politically astute individual, you are experienced in working at a senior level with elected members. Your inclusive and compassionate leadership style is complemented by a strong resident-centered mindset. A degree-level qualification and certification from the Chartered Institute of Housing (or equivalent experience) are essential.

What the Job Involves

This strategic, not operational, role involves providing leadership and strategic direction across housing standards, asset management, compliance, and investments. You will strategically manage building safety, fire safety, regulation, and statutory compliance, while owning the council’s housing asset strategy and investment planning. With a team of over 160 staff, you will oversee substantial revenue and capital investment programmes that affect 22,000 council homes. Key responsibilities include driving commercial value through procurement and contract management, transforming services to align with corporate priorities, and ensuring active resident involvement in service design and delivery.
