You are passionate about preventing and alleviating homelessness by working proactively and collaboratively with individuals and partners. You possess a strong understanding of relevant legislation and are committed to providing high-quality advice and support to those in need. You have excellent communication skills and the ability to work sensitively with vulnerable groups.

What the job involves

The Homeless Intervention Officer is responsible for early intervention, preventing homelessness, and managing crisis response efforts to alleviate homelessness. Key duties include:

  • Triaging new approaches and providing quality advice to delay or stop homelessness.
  • Conducting assessments to understand the council's duty and undertaking all necessary enquiries via Personal Housing Plans.
  • Making and checking statutory homeless decisions and considering safeguarding issues.
  • Working closely with internal and external partners to resolve homelessness.
  • Conducting full assessments and issuing notification letters in accordance with the legislation.
  • Liaising with various stakeholders to prevent or relieve homelessness.
  • Applying and implementing homelessness laws and providing housing solutions.
  • Maintaining accurate records and managing case information.
  • Identifying and referring cases for outreach services and supporting temporary accommodation rehoming efforts.
  • Providing information on the Council's Housing Register and completing accommodation assessments.
