Role

Who You Are

You are someone who is fit, enjoys working outdoors, and has a keen interest in maintaining public rights of way. You have practical experience with countryside work or a similar field, and you are comfortable operating various tools and vehicles. Effective communication skills, especially in dealing with landowners and the public, are essential.

What the Job Involves

The role involves the maintenance and upkeep of public rights of way across the Isle of Wight. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining grass and hedge cutting machinery, felling trees, installing signage, maintaining stiles, gates, bridges, and constructing paths and drainage systems. You will also be responsible for clearing snow and dealing with storm damage or flooding.

Skills

  • Practical experience in public rights of way or agricultural work
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures
  • Competent in using tools and machinery
  • Ability to drive a 4x4 vehicle
  • Valid licenses and certifications for equipment operation
  • Patience and tact in public interactions
  • Physical fitness for extensive walking and outdoor work
