Role

What the Role Involves
As a Social Worker in our Care and Support Team, you’ll play a vital role in supporting children, young people and their families following a social work assessment. You’ll work with families who require ongoing support, safeguarding oversight, or involvement in processes such as PLO or court proceedings.
You’ll carry out assessments, identify and manage risk, develop care and support plans, and work creatively with children to understand their wishes and feelings. You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues, partner agencies and multi‑disciplinary teams to ensure children are protected, supported and able to achieve positive outcomes.
Your work will include managing a varied caseload, undertaking statutory visits, preparing reports, contributing to multi‑agency meetings, and ensuring all recording meets legislative and organisational standards. You’ll also participate in the duty rota and provide cover for colleagues when required.

Who You Are
You’re a qualified and registered Social Worker who brings professional curiosity, resilience and a commitment to high‑quality practice. You understand the needs of children and families, and you’re confident assessing risk, making sound decisions and delivering timely interventions.
You communicate clearly, build strong relationships, and remain engaged even in challenging or high‑risk situations. You’re organised, able to manage a busy caseload, and confident using IT systems to maintain accurate, up‑to‑date records.
You believe in strengths‑based practice, equality, and safeguarding, and you’re committed to continuous professional development. You also hold a full driving licence and can travel across the county as needed.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • A recognised Social Work qualification (Degree in Social Work, DipSW or equivalent).
  • Registration with Social Care Wales.
  • Post‑qualifying experience in children’s social care.
  • Experience completing assessments and identifying risk.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using digital systems.
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and manage a caseload.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, equality and non‑discriminatory practice.
  • Full driving licence and ability to travel across Powys.
