Role

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who is organized, analytical, and motivated to make a difference. You should demonstrate relevant knowledge and have grounding in ecology, environmental management, or land-based work. This could come from work experience, practical delivery roles, or academic study. We particularly welcome candidates from backgrounds including ecology/environmental management, planning or environmental policy, land management or countryside roles, consultancy, or project delivery.

What the Job Involves

This is a unique role at the intersection of ecology, planning, and programme delivery. You will be central to coordinating one of the borough’s most significant environmental initiatives — the Landscape Recovery Scheme — while also shaping how biodiversity is delivered through the planning system. This is not a purely field-based ecology role — it’s about making things happen at scale, ensuring environmental projects are delivered, funded, and embedded into real-world decisions.

  • Help deliver a major, multi-year Landscape Recovery Programme, supporting governance, funding, and reporting
  • Review planning applications and ensure biodiversity and BNG requirements are properly secured
  • Assess ecological information and provide clear, evidence-based advice
  • Support and contribute to habitat management plans that drive long-term environmental outcomes
  • Use and interpret GIS and spatial data to inform decisions and programme delivery
  • Work closely with partners such as Natural England, consultants, landowners, and internal teams

Skills

  • Experience supporting or coordinating projects or programmes with multiple workstreams
  • Working understanding of ecology, biodiversity, or habitat management
  • Ability to review technical information and provide clear, practical advice
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Confidence working with a range of stakeholders
