What the Job Involves
The Principal Planning Officer is responsible for managing a range of complex planning casework that delivers strategic outcomes for the Somerset Council. This role involves negotiating and making decisions on planning proposals to meet national and local guidelines. You will provide leadership within the Development Management Service Team, supporting senior colleagues and engaging with planning committees. Additionally, you will analyse and evaluate technical information, advise elected members and provide training, manage competing service demands, and negotiate S106 agreements. You will also oversee a small team of officers and sign off on delegated decisions.
