Main Summary About the Job and Location This role is based within Haringey Council’s Children’s Services, working in the Disabled Children’s Team to support children and young people with complex needs and their families. The post holder will manage a varied caseload, undertaking assessments, coordinating short breaks and joint-funded packages, and working closely with multi-agency partners including health and education. Based in a diverse North London borough, the role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children with disabilities while working in a supportive, forward-thinking local authority committed to inclusive practice and positive outcomes. Main Responsibilities: Undertake the general work of a Social Worker within Haringey’s Disabled Children’s Team, including: To carry a caseload of children and families, working autonomously while ensuring all work is completed in accordance with statutory guidance, Haringey procedures, and best practice. To complete high-quality assessments, including Child and Family Assessments and specialist disability assessments, within statutory timescales. To assess eligibility for, implement, and review short breaks packages, ensuring they meet assessed need and are reviewed regularly in line with statutory timeframes and service expectations. To undertake joint work with Health colleagues, including completing Continuing Care assessments and developing joint-funded care packages. To undertake direct work with children and young people with disabilities, ensuring their voice, wishes, and feelings inform all aspects of planning. To complete regular statutory visits and reviews, ensuring plans remain relevant and outcomes-focused. To prepare professional reports for child protection conferences, reviews, court proceedings, and multi-agency meetings, and to present evidence where required. To work in partnership with families and professionals to manage risk and achieve sustainable outcomes. To contribute to duty systems within the team, responding to new referrals and urgent safeguarding concerns. To maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, using Mosaic (or relevant case management system) effectively. To contribute to service development, including audits, team meetings, and practice improvement initiatives within Haringey. Knowledge, Skills and Experience These are the qualities we believe to be necessary to successfully undertake this role. • Ability to undertake high-quality, analytical assessments within prescribed statutory timescales. • Skills in assessing the needs of disabled children and young people and formulating effective, outcome-focused care plans and service packages, including short breaks and joint-funded provision. • Ability to analyse risk, particularly in safeguarding and child protection contexts, and plan appropriate interventions. • Knowledge and understanding of the developmental needs of disabled children and young people within the context of their family, community, and social relationships. • Ability to understand, engage, and work with a wide range of family dynamics and parenting capacities. • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and 2004, Care Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice, and safeguarding guidance, and the ability to apply this in practice. • Knowledge of Continuing Care processes and experience of working jointly with health partners to complete assessments and develop joint-funded packages. • Skills in applying a range of social work methods to promote positive change, including direct work with disabled children and young people, particularly during periods of transition, change, or loss. • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise reports for conferences, reviews, and court proceedings, and to present evidence when required. • Ability to manage and prioritise a complex workload, use supervision effectively, and work both independently and as part of a team. • Ability to work in an anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive manner with all children, families, and carers. • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across Children’s Services and partner agencies, including health, education, and the voluntary sector. • Understanding of the importance of customer care and delivering responsive, high-quality services to children and families. • Awareness and understanding of issues affecting communities from diverse linguistic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds. • Demonstrable commitment to Haringey Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy and inclusive practice in both employment and service delivery. • Flexibility to work outside normal office hours where required to meet the needs of children, young people, and families.
