Role

We are seeking an experienced Accommodation Officer to provide urgent temporary cover within our Accommodation Operations Team due to staff sickness. This is a fast-paced frontline role requiring a candidate who can become operational quickly with minimal training. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out occupancy checks and property inspections, issuing and monitoring occupancy warnings where required, investigating potential breaches of occupancy agreements, and ensuring accommodation is being used appropriately. The role also involves supporting tenancy management functions, maintaining accurate records, liaising with residents, and working closely with internal and external partners to resolve accommodation-related issues efficiently.

Purpose of the job The postholder will be responsible for monitoring occupancy, managing tenancy and licence-related issues, undertaking occupancy inspections across Newport, supporting move-on activities, and contributing to the provision of safe and suitable accommodation for homeless households which includes face to face duty.

Mandatory Experience and Skills Previous experience working within a housing, homelessness, temporary accommodation, or supported housing environment . Experience carrying out occupancy inspections or tenancy-related property visits. Experience managing accommodation, tenancy, licence, or housing-related cases. Strong administrative skills with experience drafting: Formal letters Warning notices Eviction-related documentation Case records and reports

Experience working with vulnerable individuals with complex needs. Ability to make balanced decisions regarding risk and accommodation suitability. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage a demanding workload. A resilient and professional approach when working under pressure. Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use.

The following would be advantageous: Experience working within a local authority homelessness service. Knowledge of homelessness and housing legislation. Experience of managing temporary accommodation and move-on pathways. Experience of safeguarding and risk assessment processes. Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and strengths-based approaches. Experience of working with clients presenting with multiple and complex support needs. Familiarity with housing management or homelessness case management systems. Experience participating in front-line housing duty services.
