Role

This is a part-time Customer Service Assistant (Library Assistant) position , and will be required to work Saturdays 9-5pm and Sundays 11-3pm . The candidate will be required to be able to delivery Story Time to under 5s and rota basis (training will be provided).

This customer-facing role requires individuals who can deliver a high standard of service within busy community-based library and learning environments. Successful candidate will provide information, advice, and support to customers, assist with library operations, promote services and activities, and contribute to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all users. Key Duties Act as a first point of contact for customers, providing assistance face-to-face, by telephone, and through digital channels. Support the day-to-day running of the Idea Store, including shelving, stock management, membership registration, and maintaining a clean and organised environment. Assist customers in accessing library, learning, and council services, including self-service and digital platforms. Deliver and support activities for children and adults, such as Story Time, reading initiatives, Art Club, and community events. Undertake cash handling and point-of-sale duties where required. Promote Idea Store services and contribute to positive customer experiences. Work collaboratively with colleagues and support service delivery across multiple sites when required. Candidate Requirements Previous experience in a customer service/library environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to engage effectively with children, young people, and adults from diverse backgrounds. Good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications. Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities. A demonstrable interest in libraries, learning, reading, or community services. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain high standards of customer care. Additional Requirements Enhanced DBS clearance is required. Candidates must be willing to required to work Saturday and Sundays.

This assignment would suit candidates with backgrounds in libraries, community services, or similar public-facing roles who are passionate about supporting local communities and delivering excellent customer service.
