Independent Persons for Complaints (Children's Services)

To provide an independent service for complaint investigations to ensure the statutory requirements of the Children Act 1989 in relation to complaints and representations can be met. To review complaint documentation and provide a written report as to whether the investigation officers report is open, transparent, and fair. To make any alternative proposals for resolutions of the complaint(s). General duties � To review complaint documentation and reports � To ensure the investigation is open, fair and transparent � To comment in writing / report on whether the investigation report is open, fair and transparent � To make alternative recommendations for resolution Specific examples ; � ensure that the process of investigation is open, transparent, and fair � work alongside the Investigating Officer to provide an independent and objective view to the investigation of complaints � participate in all interviews and discussions relevant to the investigation � read the Investigating Officer�s report and produce his own report on the investigation � comment on each of the complaints and state whether he agrees with the Investigating Officer�s findings on them � explain, where necessary, his reasons for considering an investigation to be unfair or incomplete and to advise the complainant of these in his report Person Spec: Experience of chairing reviews or hearings Understanding of GDPR and its application Experience of undertaking investigations and report writing Knowledge of the Childrens Act and statutory processes High level interpersonal and communication skills with ability to engage effectively with a range of audiences Experience of IT Packages including Microsoft Teams, Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint and web applications Excellent time management and organisational skills with proven ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines Methodical research and analytical skills It would be beneficial if applicants could demonstrate the following; Experience of an independent person role for complaints or similar relevant experience Experience of an independent person role in attending reviews or hearings
