Move On & Resettlement Officer Slough Borough Council - Housing Services Job Description Role Purpose The Move On & Resettlement Officer will work with households in temporary accommodation to support and enable their move into longer-term accommodation, primarily within the Private Rented Sector, both inside and outside of Slough. The role supports the Council to discharge its homelessness duties by promoting sustainable move-on, independence, and positive resettlement outcomes. Key Responsibilities Move On and Resettlement
- Support households in temporary accommodation to secure longer-term PRS accommodation.
- Work with households to identify realistic housing options and overcome barriers to move-on.
- Acquire and negotiate accommodation from landlords, letting agents, and accommodation providers.
- Provide advice on tenancy readiness, affordability, and sustainment. Discharge of Homelessness Duty
- Support the Council to discharge homelessness duties in line with legislation.
- Ensure move-on activity complies with statutory guidance and council policies.
- Work closely with homelessness, temporary accommodation and Slough Children’s First teams.
Employment, Training, and Independence
- Support households to access employment, training, and skills opportunities.
- Signpost and refer to appropriate support services.
- Promote independence and financial stability. Families and Children
- Provide information and guidance on schools and education, particularly for out-of-borough moves.
- Work sensitively to minimise disruption to children’s education.
- Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns. Case Management and Partnership Working
- Manage a caseload and develop clear move-on plans.
- Maintain accurate case records.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners. Person Specification Qualifications Essential:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths, or relevant experience.
Desirable:
- Housing-related qualification (e.g. CIH).
- Training in homelessness or safeguarding. Knowledge Essential:
- Knowledge of Housing Legislation, Homelessness legislation, Welfare Reform legislation and local authority duties.
- Understanding of temporary accommodation and move-on pathways.
- Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of PRS tenancy law and affordability. Experience Essential:
- Experience working with vulnerable households.
- Experience providing housing or resettlement support.
- Experience managing cases and working with partners. -Experience of negotiating, acquiring and securing properties to discharge duty into the Private Rented Sector.
