Role

Job Title      Driver/HGV Driver Grade      3/4 Business Unit      Waste & Cleaning Department Environment and Leisure

Purpose of the job

To drive all vehicles specified by management (subject to licence entitlements) as required by Southwark Cleaning.

Principal accountabilities

To report to a Southwark Cleaning supervisor. To ensure vehicles are road-worthy before, during and after each shift. Carry out safety checks as detailed in the drivers’ log books. Complete drivers log books fully and truthfully. Report defects and accidents immediately. Carry out tasks as assigned, including loading of goods, waste and any other item that needs transporting. To sort and recycle loads where appropriate. To carry out cleaning duties as required in times of need. Clean the vehicle (inside and out) at least every two weeks or as directed. To attend training sessions organised by supervisory staff and to use new equipment after training, and to carry out new methods or procedures as and when directed. To be responsible for the security of all vehicles under the employees control. Carry out all duties with due regard to:

Job context

Reporting to: Southwark Cleaning Area Supervisor

Organisational Objectives : Contribute to the Department’s development and implementation of the Council’s corporate objectives including:

Financial Responsibilities : The post holder will have no specific financial responsibilities.

Contacts: Contact will be at an operational level and will include:

Members of the public. Council officers in the E & L department and council wide. External bodies such as Keep Britain Tidy, Capital Standards.

Grade/Conditions of Service: Grade : 3/4 Contractual hours: 36 hours, Monday to Saturday

Person Specification

Knowledge, including educational qualifications:

An understanding of, and commitment to, the Council’s Equality and Diversity Policies in connection with employment and service provision. A full, clean class 1 or class 2 heavy goods vehicle licence for LGV drivers or a full clean driving licence for non-LGV drivers. A minimum of 2 years experience of working in a cleaning, grounds maintenance, waste management or related work environment as a driver/ LGV driver.
