This is a legal professional position within the London Borough of Bexley, part of the Finance and Corporate Services directorate. The role of a Lawyer involves providing legal advice and expertise to the Council. Candidates should hold the qualification of Solicitor or Barrister, or be a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives, with a minimum of four years post-qualification experience.
What the Job Involves
The Lawyer will handle a caseload, providing advice on complex legal issues, identifying political and operational risks, ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of legal service delivery, and advising on public administrative and constitutional matters. Attendance at evening meetings and committees, as well as working beyond contracted hours when necessary, are expected. The Lawyer will also draft and negotiate legal documents, assist with planning appeals, and instruct external legal professionals when needed. In addition, they will supervise and support the development of junior legal officers, ensuring clients are informed of legal developments.
