Passenger Assistant - Grade A

Plymouth City Council

Who You Are

We are seeking caring and reliable individuals who enjoy working with children and young people. Experience with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is a significant advantage. This position is perfect for those returning to work after a break, such as looking after a young family, or those who are partially retired but still seeking a valuable part-time role during term time. It is also an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to gain experience working with children and young people in the educational sector.

What the Job Involves

As a Passenger Assistant, you will support children and young people, many with additional needs, ensuring their safety and comfort during their commute to and from school or college. You will step in to cover for unavailable Passenger Assistants and collaborate with drivers and schools to make each journey smooth and stress-free. Work is needed from Monday to Friday, typically between 07:00–10:00 and 14:00–17:00, during term time only. Hours may vary depending on routes and student schedules. Pick-up and drop-off from home are provided, but flexibility is essential due to the varied nature of covering shifts.

Skills

  • Experience with children and young people
  • Understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Patience and empathy
  • Flexibility and adaptability
