Who You Are
You are an experienced building professional with a solid background in handling legal disrepair cases preferably within a social housing context. With a strong understanding of building failures including damp and structural issues, you can effectively diagnose and manage repair cases. You are organized, proactive, and capable of handling a technical caseload independently, ensuring all tasks are completed within target deadlines. You thrive in an office-based environment but are comfortable managing on-site inspections and client interactions as needed.
What the Job Involves
As a Legal Repairs Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing a caseload of live disrepair claims, party wall awards, and repair diagnostics. The role involves conducting site inspections, preparing detailed work specifications, managing budgets, and contributing towards policy development within the team. You will also provide technical advice, administer contracts, and potentially serve as an expert witness in court proceedings. A key part of the role is to liaise with legal and repair teams, ensuring compliance with legal standards and contractual agreements, and work towards resolving disrepair claims effectively.
Skills
- HND/C Building with relevant experience or BSc Building qualification
- Effective caseload and budget management
- Specification writing for repairs and maintenance
- Preparation of work programmes and Bills of Quantity
- Contract administration and supervision of works
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Court experience as an expert witness
- Proficiency with computer and technical equipment
- Knowledge of building codes and legal repair legislation
