Senior Food Safety Officer
Who You Are
- A dedicated professional with a degree-level education or three years of demonstrable professional experience.
- You have a minimum baseline qualification for food hygiene official controls meeting the competency requirements of the Food Law Code of Practice for an Authorised Officer.
- An individual with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, capable of clear communication with diverse contacts.
- Adaptable and self-motivated, with a flexible attitude and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- A proactive team player who champions diversity, equality, and inclusive practices.
What the Job Involves
- Providing technical professional services to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of residents, workers, and visitors within the Borough.
- Assisting, advising, and enforcing statutory powers to ensure safety and maintain legal standards.
- Reporting to the Food Safety Team Leader and participating in related operations and projects.
- Investigating food premises, handling service requests, and conducting legal enforcement actions.
- Inspecting premises, preparing reports, and liaising with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
- Developing knowledge sharing initiatives, providing technical support, and delivering food hygiene training.
- Promoting effective communication, preparing reports, and representing the team at meetings.
- Maintaining records, contributing to business processes, and ensuring data integrity.
- Respecting health and safety regulations and promoting Council values and priorities.
Skills
- Technically knowledgeable in Environmental Health/Legislation
- Sound understanding of food safety processes
- Competent in Microsoft Office and data management systems
- Ability to draft legal documents accurately
- Project management and problem-solving skills
- Capability to manage complex cases efficiently
- Strong customer service understanding
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
