Who You Are
You are an experienced Planning Lawyer with admission as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Legal Executive in England and Wales or a Common Law jurisdiction. You have a proactive attitude, embody a "Can-do" approach, and show commitment to service improvement. Your interpersonal, influencing, and presentational skills are strong, allowing you to effectively represent the Council in various legal settings. You are knowledgeable in Local Government law, demonstrate understanding in Equality Diversity & Inclusion, and can manage a substantial caseload efficiently.
What the Job Involves
The job involves providing efficient and cost-effective legal services to departments like the Planning Team and Highways Team. You'll conduct cases in all Courts and Tribunals, draft legal documents, instruct Counsel, and provide legal advice. You'll attend and advise at various meetings and committees, keep clients informed about new legislation, and undertake planning inquiries. You'll ensure compliance with Legal Services requirements and provide training while contributing to service planning, development, and improvement initiatives.
Skills
- Experience in planning, highways, or environmental law
- Ability to provide legal representation in courts and tribunals
- Knowledge of Civil and Criminal Court procedures
- Strong influencing and negotiating skills
- Ability to work under tight deadlines
- Proven advocacy experience
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- ICT competency, including learning new systems
- Understanding of Local Government law and procedures
