Who You Are
We are seeking a Senior Commercial Contracts and Procurement Lawyer who is passionate about making Islington a fairer place for everyone. You will be committed to tackling inequality and embodying the values and behaviours of the council – being collaborative, ambitious, resourceful, and empowering. A qualified solicitor, barrister or a FILEX qualified individual with substantial post-qualification experience, especially in contract law, commercial law, and public procurement law, you will have the ability to communicate effectively and lead in a corporate environment.
What the job involves
As part of the Legal Service area, reporting to Jabeen Story, you will assist the Chief Contracts Lawyer by supporting the Council’s functions related to contracts, procurement, and other assigned tasks. You will manage a Contracts Lawyer, undertake a substantial caseload of complex contract work, and ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and policy standards. Key tasks include drafting and negotiating contract documentation, advising on contract claims, developing effective procedures, and ensuring performance and quality standards are met. The role involves collaboration with various council members and supports legal services and initiatives aimed at fostering a fair workplace environment.
