What the Job Involves
The Vehicle Inspector plays a key role in operating the MOT testing station and inspecting both council and public vehicles. You perform MOT tests up to Class 7, assist in planning and scheduling vehicle tests and maintenance, diagnose faults, and provide comprehensive condition reports. You liaise with the public, manage payments, process documentation, and uphold safety standards. Responsibilities also include maintaining and improving the workshop environment, supervising junior staff, and deputizing in the absence of the Quality Controller if required.
Skills
- NVQ 3 Heavy Motor Vehicle or equivalent qualification
- Qualified Commercial Vehicle Inspector (VOSA accreditation)
- Nominated Tester for MOT Class 4 to 7 testing
- Accredited product training in vehicle inspection and maintenance
- Experience in dealing with the public in an MOT Testing Station
- Intermediate welding or Motor Vehicle Electrical Skills
- 10+ years in fleet or plant maintenance
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations
- Current vocational LGV Category C and forklift licenses
- Ability to operate within strict budgetary and quality guidelines
- Strong communication and organizational skills
