Who You Are

You are a detail-oriented and proactive individual with a strong understanding of planning applications, capable of managing a range of minor to small-scale major cases. You possess the ability to evaluate complex planning scenarios and provide robust recommendations to achieve desired outcomes. Your role involves contributing to service improvements and providing guidance to peers, ensuring up-to-date knowledge of contemporary planning issues.

What the Job Involves

Your role involves processing and assessing a variety of planning applications, ranging from simple to complex cases, within designated timescales. You will prepare detailed reports, attend Planning Committees, and contribute to appeals by preparing the Council’s case. Additionally, you provide pre-application advice, manage your workflow to meet KPIs, and contribute to business management improvements. You also support peers and junior staff by sharing knowledge on planning legislation and procedures.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of planning applications
  • Ability to produce detailed reports and recommendations
  • Experience in managing both minor and complex cases
  • Knowledge of conservation areas and Green Belt issues
  • Ability to handle appeals and represent the Council
  • Pre-application advice and report writing skills
  • Project management and service improvement contributions
  • Guidance and support to peers and junior staff
  • Basic knowledge of tree-related applications
  • Awareness of Planning Enforcement function
